>Confessional – #6

>
Just around the corner from the St. Ignaz church in the Altstadt, there’s a wine bar called “Beichtstuhl” – German for confessional.

The story of its name goes like this:

The menfolk in days gone by evidently preferred drinking with their mates to going to church. (Things don’t really change….)

So when the womenfolk started nagging them (things really don’t change…) about absolving themselves of their sins by a visit to St Ignaz and a chat with the priest, they’d think “Anything for a quiet life” (no, they don’t do they…) and say

“OK, I’m off to confession then, dear”

Yeah, right.

Straight down to the boozer….
