The SPD, Germany’s centre-left party, has its Mainz electorate headquarters right next to St Antonius.
He’s the patron saint of all matter of things and people:
American Indians, animals, barrenness, elderly people, fishermen, harvests, horses, lost articles,  lower animals, mail, mariners, oppressed people, poor people, pregnant women, seekers of lost articles, shipwrecks, starvation, sterility, swineherds, Tigua Indians, travel hostesses, travellers, watermen.
Busy bloke.
No surprise, then, that he couldn’t take politicians under his wing as well.
Which explains why they dropped 11.2 percentage points to a fairly miserable 27.9% of the vote…
