>It’s that time of year again…#770

It’s Kerb in the village again.

Used to be the celebration at the time of the consecration of a church, but people appear to have enjoyed themselves so much that they made it into an annual event.

And changed the name via dialect from Kirchweih (church consecration) to Kerwe to Kerb.

Or from Kirchmesse (Church Mass) to Kirmes.

Or…every region has its own pronunciation and spelling

So after you enjoyed your liver dumplings or – in the case of Mrs jb – gagged while watching someone else eat the liver dumplings, you toddle off for some dessert.

In the form of what used to be called – in more innocent times – Tête de nègre (The “N” word head) in France and Negerkuss (The “N” word kiss) in Germany.

These days they’re called Chocolate Kisses, but the sales girls tend to give you a ‘”nudge nudge, wink wink, know what I mean” look when you ask for one by its PC name.

And we’re nothing if not politically correct, right…?

  1. >Oh hell's bells JB. I can't make heads or tails of this whole thing…….. as usual. I'm not eating any liver, along with Mrs. JB. That said, it looks like hearts hanging there. Of course you will have to give a detailed explanation to this Southerner. 🙂 Sigh!I must be from away!! Far , far away.V
