The Knowledge Fair in Mainz (scroll back a couple of weeks – can’t link in Blogpress) coincides with the strangest darned events on the market square in front of the cathedral.
Last year, it was the Annual Gathering of Geriatrics, with free inoculations against Alzheimers (I went back 3 times), hearing tests (“WHAT DID YOU SAY?”) and easy chairs that propel you into a vertical position at the pull of a lever.
This year, it was Foreigner Day (or whatever the PC Flavour of the Month phrase for us is. “Fellow Citizens”, I think).
Festive events such as Traditional Corn Husk Balancing, Borat look-alike contests, Feed the Masses with Döner and the Albanian stands“Donate here and avoid a mugging”
All good stuff.
The Antipodes, however) were poorly represented (if not to say “not at all”).
If they’d have only asked us, Helen and I could have fronted up and flogged Lamingtons and Kiwifruit daiquiris.
And fought in public over who invented the pavlova……
>I believe in this picture it was some portuguese typical dances? The outfits really look like the typical ones in some regions of Portugal! It was a pity I couldn´t go and see it… Rute (portuguese in Mainz)http://highontangerine.blogspot.com
