A boiled egg short of a picnic?

One and a half bubbles out of plumb?

Silly as a 10 bob watch?

Not the sharpest knife in the drawer?

Or dumb as a bag of hammers?

That’s what “Haben Sie einen Schatten?” really means, but literally, it translates as “Have you got a shadow?”

The inventive folks at the Botanical Garden Summer Fete used it to nudge people towards plants that tolerate shade, with the rejoinder “Then take me!”

Smart bunch.

Bet they’ve got degrees and stuff……
