Not actually crows lurking above Hechtsheim, but rooks. (The locals call them “Saatkrähen” – seed crows)
And when they’re not looking for seed to devour, they’ll be descending in their thousands on cherry trees, there to decimate the crop and leave the trees looking as if a plague of locusts had been through.
The orchardists would indeed like to stobe the buggers, if not more, but being prevented from doing so by the fact they’re a protected species…
The POWERS THAT BE, however, gave dispensation earlier in the year to bowl over a single rook per farm and impale it on a stake as a WARNING TO THE REST OF YOUSE.
Fat lot of good that appears to have done, given that these buggers almost blocked out the sun…
