>Mother knows best – 878

>

A “Drop of the Best” from Mother and Son.
“Mutter and Sohn”, to be precise, a family operation based in Mainz-Bretzenheim
Except that “Sohn” is  “Mutter”  (Walter Mutter, that is) whose daughter and grand-daughters are now running the operation
And “A Drop of the Best” being a herbal liqueur that Walter’s great-grandmother started brewing up under the striking name of “Hiddigeigei” in the mid-19th C.

Pretty wild stuff if you look at the list of ingredients – starts with A for Andorn (Marrubium vulgare) and finishes 30 items later with T for Tausendgüldenkraut (Centaurium) – and pretty wild-tasting, too.

Sort of like a high octane Umckaloabo (which I’ve been force-fed on occasion).

You could probably usefully fuel a drag racer with the darn stuff.

35% alcohol.

Anyway, by all accounts, it’s promised to cure what ails you, reline your stomach, put lead in your pencil and goodness knows what else, so it looks as if I’ll be around for a while…

  1. >I remember that stuff from my younger days living in Switzerland. It was given to you for an upset stomach. If the stomach was not too bad before, it certainly was after you took some of that vile potion.

  2. >You only had the stuff once??Anyway, your text made me SMILE!:-)

  3. >Great label; looks harmless, but…Reminds me of Southern moonshine, very wicked stuff.
