>Not again… – #882

This is as close as I’m prepared to get the Karneval business, especially today (yesterday, actually)  – Weiberfastnacht – where drunken and lascivious wimmin roam the town, brandishing scissors and emasculating neckwear.

(I kid you not – we had to warn business partners from overseas to dress informally on days like this.)

But Karneval on TV is significantly less threatening and quite enjoyable, in fact.

Some great satirical stuff (and Mainz delivers topics that scream out for satire WAAAY out of proportion to its size), lots of slapstick and pointed political commentary.

And of course, everybody rips into Günther Oettinger, the newly anointed EU Energy Commissioner and his feeble attempts at English, having loudly proclaimed in the lead in to his speech how essential a command of the language is.

So – given that most entertainers frequently broke into my Mother Tongue, I would have been in my element.

If only they didn’t insist that you have to get dressed up and wear a red nose….

  1. >It must have been fun, though. Anyway, it's only a few days then things will get back to normal (boring).

  2. >Carnaval is the same all over, I guess. Lots of frivolity, noise, and annoyance for curmudgeons, among whom is my own DH!

  3. >Nice screen, JB! Looks like you watch TV in style! Don't miss the opening ceremony for the Olympics tonight!
