>Ouch – #1134

>

The new synagogue in Mainz (don’t ask what happened to the old one – read your history books..) was inaugurated by the Federal President at the beginning of last month.

To say that it’s optically challenging would be an understatement.

Whatever.

The structure was designed by Manuel Herz, a Cologne architect, and incorporates the five Hebrew letters forming the word ‘Kedushah’ (holiness).

  4. >I was skeptic after I saw it in the newspaper but liked it very much after I saw it myself. It fits very well in its surrounding. By the way, you have a very nice blog, Rute. Didn't discover before.Gabriela

  6. >I live right in front of this sinagogue. And though I must say that during it´s construction, all the caos and noise was pissing me off on a daily basis, now I think it has actually improved the landscape on this area. Even though the parking places are considerably reduced …

  7. >What an unusual building! I'd love to see it; did you go inside. Is the interior as unique as the exterior?
