A quote from Heinrich von Kleist‘s letter to Adolphine von Werdeck stretching through the shrubbage on the Schillerplatz and advertising the 3rd SWR Literature Night (tomorrow night), one of the highlights being a marathon reading of some of Kleist’s works (he would have been 200 (2011-1777, you work it out…) this year if he hadn’t died so tragically young by his own hand 200 years ago ..) by volunteers.

Hate to correct you, 2011 marks the 200th anniversary of Kleists death (born 10. or 18. Oktober 1777; kiiled 21. November 1811).
Neat shot – good for next theme day! Thanks for reminding me of Kleist, I have not read anything of his in decades, but used to be a fan of his carefully constructed often very long sentences. So when I followed the (non)link on fishandchips to the letter, I found myself drowning in hyper-romantic exuberance. I think I’ll have to look up some of his short stories and Anekdoten for an antidote…
Enjoy the Literaturnacht.
