Not just a pretty face – #1599

That’s what my schoolboy Latin tells me is the translation for “Boniface”, shown here giving us the cold shoulder as he gazes over the square in front of the cathedral.

Patron saint of Germany, no less, (despite having been born in Exeter in the UK) and the first Bishop of Mainz among many other things.

“One of the truly outstanding creators of the first Europe” someone wrote.

So that makes him primarily responsible for the current schamazzle over here, it seems.
