…oh, about 24 years.
We first met Ulla Nelles-Halft in 1988 at an amateur artists’ market in a small village way out in the woops.
She was waaaay best of show and we bought the tiny watercolour that she’s holding in the picture for sod-all-and-threepence.
Given that she lived in Nieder-Olm and the fact that we read the local rag meant that we kept up to speed on her exhibitions.
From the time we first met her, she’s moved from small watercolours via large watercolours to stunning large format still life photo-realistic oil paintings.
Open Studio weekend in the region at the weekend and we – together with our first purchase – visited her in her new studio (which is a spare room in the apartment she’s moved to.)
And she said – interestingly enough after gaining decades of experience – “That’s a really good watercolour. Not a mistake – I didn’t need to correct a single thing”
(We’d call it “post-production” in this digital age…)
