Asparagus is traditionally – around here anyway – the harbinger of spring, Easter/Ēostre and other pagan rites.
2013 didn’t quite get things right – Easter/Ēostre was early, spring was late and the asparagus STILL hasn’t awoken from its slumbers.
The local sons of the soil are doing their best – covering the mounds with black plastic (which is what most of them do every year anyway) to get the soil warmed and boot the crowns out of hibernation mode, but THIS year, they’re putting foil tunnels over the black-plastic-covered-mounds to get a few more degrees out of the Big Yellow.
If it works too well, the stuff’s going to pop out of the ground already cooked.
Wouldn’t want that…..
