It’s Christmas time.
This is the Schillerplatz, one of Mainz’s major squares and by far the busiest.
So where are the Christmas decorations?
I’ll tell you where.
Creating shareholder value, that’s where.
The Schillerplatz (and Mainz in general) used to have heaps of family owned and operated businesses who fostered a true community spirit.
It was people like this who sponsored the Christmas lights on the Schillerplatz.
These days, they’re outnumbered by chains of cheap hairdressers, sellers of knickknacks and bakeries [sic] that heat up frozen pucks of dough.
Spend some money on Christmas decorations?
“Nah, head office won’t let us…”
What a pity! Well despite the lack of Christmas cheer, it is a lovely and photogenic street anyway!
