Country life

It works like this.

You rock over to Klaus and Isabell Gres’s vineyard restaurant for snack and a glass of wine and no sooner have you ordered, but Klaus turns up with that “youhavetotrythese” look on his face and 4 bottles.

Sauvignon Blanc from 2012, the 2013 that he’s just bottled, a 2012 matured in new French oak barriques and a 2013 to match.

And so you sit there, have a sip of this, a sip of that, compare them, chat about them, then the food turns up (a tarte flambée with cheese and leeks and a ricotta-quark fresh cheese) and he says “Well, I’ll leave you to it – just help yourselves…”

I could get quite used to this.

In moderation….
