The Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung, a highly regarded weekly sister publication to the quality national daily FAZ, isn’t too positive about Mainz 05’s chances in the Bundesliga/First Diviso=ion this year.

OK, their inspirational trainer Thomas Tüchel (who took them to the giddy heights of the European League qualification) is gone.

And the new guy’s strategy appears to based on skill sets that don’t appear to be in great abundance in the  current squad.

And 2 of their best forwards have headed off to greener (as in “morefoldingstuff green”) pastures.

And they heroically conceded FIVE GOALS against a 3rd Division team to  exit the Cup competition last week, having exited the European League qualification the previous week.

But giving them the kiss of death and having them down for relegation is a bit much.

Then again, if they lose their opener to Paderborn (who also got the Kiss of Death, but with some tongue..) next week, I’ll reassess the situation…
