The Burgundermarkt on the Gutenbergplatz is a bi-annual and much anticipated event where small producers from Mainz’s twin town of Dijon set up their stands and sell everything from fresh bread (Pain au Lard, anyone? How about Pain au Noix?) to salmon paté and goats’ cheese.
And of course they sell wine.
By the bottle.
Or by the glass.
And this being a non-wowser country, you can stand around and enjoy your glass of rouge, blanc, rosé or cremant in public without having to hide it in a brown paper bag and keep looking over your shoulder to see if Günther Plod is going to taser you…
The Burgundermarkt is also an excellent source of income…
I can imagine it draws people in.
