Maria Meyer and Ute Matschke are among my favourite potters. I don’t buy a lot of their work – their target market is more families with kiddies – , but they’re just the nicest people.

I do their website for pretty much free (a tin of Maria’s legendary Linzertorte, twice a year is pretty fair payment….) and try (“try”, being the operative word..) to give them some marketing advice, but it’s very much like herding cats.

But when our nice neighbours, Annika and Andreas, turned up 9 weeks ago with little Thekla, I just knew that her first cup was going to be one from Maria and Ute.

Found one with the right shape and decoration and gave it to her the other day.

I think I glimpsed a smile…
