Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year or so, you’ll be aware that the trickle of refugees from Syria/Eritrea/Libya/Balkans has grown from a trickle to a flood, expected to top a 1,000,000.
In Germany.
This year.
These folks turn up with nothing except what’s on their backs and what you can carry over a period of months.
Or even years.
And winter’s on its way.
Our village mayor, Ute Granold, and the local Protestant and Catholic ministers got together and asked people to part with anything warm and wearable and to bring it to the village hall (a successful conversion from what used to be a supermarket).
To say that the response was overwhelming doesn’t even get close.
Last saw our neighbour Birgit on her way to the local Home Depot/Mitre 10/B&Q to buy some more cardboard boxes…..
Meanwhile our excuse for a Prime Minister drags his knuckles and uses this to stoke xenophobia. We can’t get rid of the man fast enough as far as I’m concerned.
