>Dätwyl – #415

>A hop, skip and 30 minute drive from here is Wintersheim, a wine growing village surrounded by a forest of wind turbines.

The REAL reason for going there is Dätwyls, a wine bar run by Heiko Dettweiler and his wfe Heike.

Found out about it after Birgit, Star Journalist from over the road, did a “A Year in the Life” series for the local rag a few years back, following a family farm through the seasonal cycle.

There’s not a lot that can beat sitting in the courtyard on a late spring evening, enjoying the wines and food, playing with the Labradors and chatting with Heiko.

Definitely one of the Good Guys

  1. >Jack and I lived in Germany in the 70’s. My BOQ for DOD teachers was a stone’s throw from the Haupfriedhof in Frankfurt am Main. This is a huge cemetary with sections—some devoted to both World Wars. I still have a photo of a propeller of a WWI plane on this pilots tombsone. Very interesting cemetary to visit. Check it out. We also went to wine festivals in Bad Kreuznach.Nice photos of Germany. I’ll bookmark you and come back often to take a look.

  2. >Sounds like a wonderful way to spend an afternoon! Cheers!

  3. >It is a shame you have to drive somewhere to get the best drink in wine.
