>September 2008 Theme Day: Sister Cities – 538

>

Take your partner by the hand….
Mainz has a touch of promiscuity when it comes to partnering.
They seem to chat up any likely looking talent and then it’s “Would you like to see my etchings” and bingo, a new sign on the city limits.
Mainz has lots.
  • Flag of the United Kingdom Watford, United Kingdom, since 1956
  • Flag of France Dijon, France, since 1957
  • Flag of France Longchamp, France, since 1966
  • Flag of Croatia Zagreb, Croatia, since 1967
  • Flag of ItalyRodengo, Italy, since 1977
  • Flag of Spain Valencia, Spain, since 1978
  • Flag of Israel Haifa, Israel, since 1981
  • Flag of Germany Erfurt, former East Germany, since 1988
  • Flag of Azerbaijan Baku, Azerbaijan, since 1984
  • Flag of the United States – Louisville, USA, since 1994
Now, I’ve been to Watford – my cousin Graham asked me whether anyone from Mainz had actually BEEN to Watford before they got twinned and a flossy at an apiarist in the Provence told me she’s been there once. “Gris” was all she said… – but I didn’t stop the car.
Which is what you shouldn’t do in Baku, either, according to a guy I used to work with who was later GM of our local company there. Police will rob you blind if you do.
Been to Dijon, though.
Good place.
But I like their moutarde best of all.
Enjoy the more inspiring snaps and comments elsewhere in the blogosphere…
