Hamish, Mapua’s resident white heron, graced the wharf with his presence from the late 1980s until 2011 when he was last seen emptying Kathie Russell’s goldfish pond in Brightwater in 2011.
He’s been immortalised with a sculpture on a post at the end of Mapua wharf’s spanking new pontoon.
Hope he doesn’t fall off that perch, too…
