Why I like Mainz – a series of n

Don’t those Germans just love their spuds….

This website lists around 300 “commercially relevant” varieties grown here

The UK has 80….

The US probably only has the Idaho…..

You’ll find a lot of feminine names on that list.

Ms jb tends to buy Sieglinde (her dad used to grow them) or Annabelle from the potato specialist on the market (who probably has about 10  varieties at peak), but Alexandra caught her eye yesterday. while she was getting 2kg/€4 of Annabelle.

Horst Stahl, our potato man, says that they’re pretty much the same as Annabelle and then disappears for a while.

“Here you are” he says, giving her a good 1kg bag “You can do a direct comparison”

No charge, obviously.

This is why I like Mainz.

  1. A lot of them get grown on Prince Edward Island.

I couldn’t find my glasses and thought you said they really like their “suds”.
