If you look closely at the top of the column in St Stephan, you’ll identify a truncated whateverit’scalled.
(It’s actually a remant of the groin vault that was integral to the pre-7 February 1942 church roof.)
The fire damage caused by white phosphorous incendiaries was significant and the arches over the nave and the quire could not be saved and have been replaced by a flat wooden ceiling.
